Barry Chung 鍾慶鴻

Barry Chung (鍾慶鴻) is one of Hong Kong’s most recognized composers, arrangers, and guitarists, with a career spanning decades across pop music, film scoring, and instrumental production. Known for his musical versatility and distinctive guitar style, Barry has contributed to numerous award-winning songs, commercial works, and live performances.

He began his career as a guitarist with the band Trinity and was later discovered as a backing vocalist, working with legendary artists throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. Over the years, he became a sought-after collaborator, serving as producer, arranger, guitarist, and backing vocalist for major Cantopop stars including Jacky Cheung, Anita Mui, Miriam Yeung, Leo Ku, Joey Yung, and Nicholas Tse.

Barry’s songwriting credits include some of the most iconic Cantopop hits, such as “Swallowtail Butterfly” (Shine), “Brave” (Miriam Yeung), “Special Guest” (Joey Yung), and “Confidence Garden” (Eason Chan). His expressive guitar work has also been featured in film, including the award-winning soundtrack of Isabella, composed by Peter Kam, where Barry performed all guitar parts.

In 2006, Barry gained international recognition by participating in the USA Songwriting Competition and the Great American Song Contest, receiving multiple nominations. His composition “Once You Know” won First Place in the instrumental category, making him the first Chinese winner of the award, while “Thirty Something” earned an Honor Award at the Great American Song Contest.

He later received the Best Original Film Score Award at the 4th Asian Film Awards for his collaboration with Lo Ta-yu on the film Vengeance. In 2013, Barry released his second instrumental album “Confluence”, a reinterpretation of classic works by Lowell Lo, which was highly acclaimed and recommended by leading musicians in Hong Kong. That same year, he served as bandleader for Lo Ta-yu’s extensive concert tour across mainland China and Taiwan.

Beyond pop and film music, Barry has a deep passion for spiritual and ambient sound exploration. In 2023, he completed a conceptual album inspired by the seven chakras, recorded largely through spontaneous, single-take performances. The project reflects his belief in music as a channel of higher expression. The album went on to receive international recognition, including Silver Awards for Best New Age Album and Best Producer (New Age) at the 2025 Global Music Awards, and a finalist position at the 2025 World Entertainment Awards.

With his unique blend of technical mastery, emotional depth, and creative intuition, Barry Chung continues to inspire musicians worldwide and remains a highly respected figure in the global music community.
